YOUR SAY: Drink drivers get enough grief

IT is time to replace the Drink Drivers Segment with some feel good community based stories.

This segment achieves nothing positive for our city.

Surely these residents already carry the shame they bring to their families and the shame of fronting court to explain themselves to a magistrate - let's leave it at that.

If they have no shame then the segment is even more pointless.

If any resident really wants to hear all the sordid details then they are welcome to visit the courthouse and get their information first hand. I vote for positive Ipswich stories to replace this segment.

EDITOR'S COMMENT: I APPRECIATE your e-mail and yes you are correct that this campaign has now been rolling along for some time.

Unfortunately, the number of DUI defendants in our courts has not decreased and if this campaign can stop one person from getting behind the wheel drunk then I believe it achieves the purpose intended.

A drunk driver must realise they are a threat to the community and are driving around with a loaded shotgun. We aim to be positive in the stories in the QT.

That being said, there are some issues you cannot sugar-coat.

Thanks for your note. Regards, Peter Chapman, editor
