A 22-YEAR-OLD Ipswich woman has been charged with launching a racist tirade against a Muslim human rights activist on Facebook.
It is alleged Jay-Leighsa Victoria Bauman used the social media site to attack Afghanistan refugee Mariam Veiszadeh on January 3.
The online abuse was sparked when Ms Veiszadeh rallied against a Woolworths in Cairns that was selling singlets with the Australian flag and the slogan "love it or leave".
Baumann, from Collingwood Park, allegedly responded by calling Ms Veiszadeh a "prostitute" and a "rag-head" and urged her to return to her "sand-dune country".
Ms Veiszadeh, a 30-year-old lawyer, has lived in Australia since she was seven after she and her family fled from Afghanistan during the Soviet War.
Baumann was charged with using a carriage service to menace, harass or cause offence on February 13.
She will appear in Ipswich Magistrates Court on March 11.
On Twitter Ms Veiszadeh wrote she was pleased Bauman has been charged for her alleged racist behaviour.
