Woman hit by wayward wheelie bin

A RACEVIEW woman was taken to hospital after being hit over the head and shoulders with a wheelie bin yesterday.

Witnesses said the woman had been chasing an Ipswich Waste Services garbage truck in her car from her home in Sonter Street, complaining that her rubbish had not been picked up.

When the truck stopped in nearby Briggs Road she pulled up behind it and got out, standing on the left hand side of the truck as it emptied a bin.

The woman was hit as the machine dumped the bin back down on the footpath.

The 65-year-old was treated for head and shoulder injuries, but was conscious and talking to paramedics when they arrived.

The incident had been referred to Workplace Health and Safety.
