Rabbitohs pack to sharpen up against Tigers

AFTER winning their first NRL premiership in 43 years last season, an inconsistent start to 2015 has seen plenty of critics write off the

chances of the Rabbitohs going back-to-back.

The team sits in fifth place with an 8-5 record, but produced arguably its best performance of the campaign last weekend, thrashing the Warriors 36-4.

Lock forward Ben Lowe (pictured) said after losing key forwards Sam Burgess and Ben Te'o to rugby union in the off-season, the pack was starting to show solid improvement.

"We're still trying to grow as a group there," Lowe said.

"As a forward pack I thought the Warriors were really strong at times.

"This week we've got the Tigers and that's a big focus for us - making sure we go out and put an 80-minute performance in."

A plus for the Souths pack in tomorrow night's game will be the absence of West Tigers No.1 prop Aaron Woods who will be on NSW Origin duty.

Woods has been one of the form front-rowers of the competition this season, running for 228m and completing 37 tackles in last weekend's loss to the Titans.

Keith Galloway will start in place of Woods, while try-scoring centres Tim Simona and David Nofoaluma are expected to return from injury for the clash.
