Queensland well represented at major Ipswich kart round

AUSTRALIAN motorsport's next generation of stars will be on show when round three of the Australian Kart Championship is staged in Ipswich next weekend.

The July 4/5 event at Willowbank marks the halfway point in the 2015 Championship with 200 entries received across eight classes.

Fresh from a victory at the most recent round in South Australia, Gold Coaster Jack Doohan leads the way in the KA Junior standings as he enters his home round.

After winning the Rookies (Cadet 12) class last year, Doohan has continued his good form into his 2015 campaign. He holds a 19-point lead over his nearest rival in the championship chase.

Pimpama-based Scott Sorensen is the reigning Queensland champion in the KF2 class.

After a win in South Australia last month, the Harrington Doyle Racing driver enters his home round as the leader.

Sitting just two points behind him on the standings is Holden Kart Team driver Liam McLellan.

No less than 14 drivers from the Sunshine State will be lining up in the international-level class including Ipswich Grammar School's Brock Plumb.

Practice starts next Friday.
