Queensland has more legal brothels than ever before

THERE are more legal brothels in Queensland than ever before, the Prostitution Licensing Authority has revealed.

PLA chairman Manus Boyce, who said he would not seek reappointment at the conclusion of his term in November, said the opening of a new brothel at Marcoola in July brought the total number to 27.

"This is the highest number since the commencement of the licensing framework," he said.

In the PLA's 1013-14 annual report, tabled in Queensland Parliament last week, Mr Boyce said, "in the absence of legislative reform", he did not expect to see much growth in the legal sex industry in the near future.

Among the reasons, Mr Boyce said, were economic conditions, the return on investment for operators compared to other businesses and the "entrepreneurial ability" of licensees.
