QT City of Ipswich Sports Awards - Lifetime Achievement Award

John has been involved with hockey in Ipswich for over 50 years.  John first started playing hockey in 1948 after two years of competitive junior cycling, and continued to play hockey in Ipswich from juniors to seniors, finishing in 1968.  

John represented Queensland, playing in the Under 21 Queensland team in 1954.

John first attended the Ipswich Hockey Association meetings in 1952 as a delegate for Eastern Suburbs Hockey Club.  Some highlights of John's hockey volunteer work include:

 

·       Ipswich Hockey Association Secretary 1958 - 1975

·       Ipswich Hockey Association President 1976 - 2011

·       Life Member - Easts Hockey Club;  the Ipswich Umpires Association;  the Ipswich Hockey   Association (1972); and Hockey Queensland (1995)

John's volunteer service to Hockey also includes seven years as a Board Member of the Queensland Hockey Association, six years as a Hockey Queensland Board Member and over fifteen years serving Hockey Queensland Sub-Committees.

John was elected Alderman of Ipswich City Council in 1976 and served the Heath, Parks and Recreation Committee whilst also working as a Fitter at the Ipswich Railway Workshops.

John was elected Ipswich Citizen of the Year in 1991, and awarded the OAM in 1992 for his service to the City of Ipswich and his sport.
