Purple haze is the signal to get ready for summer

JACARANDA trees are bursting into colour throughout the district, announcing to all that summer is just around the corner.

One of the better parks to admire the jacarandas is Timothy Maloney Oval opposite St Mary's Church in the heart of Ipswich.

As well as being superb street trees, jacarandas look stunning on their own as a specimen tree in an open lawn, where their fallen flowers form a colourful carpet of blue.

The jacaranda tree, which is native to Brazil, is featured in Grafton's major festival of the year.
