Prosecutor to make 'thugs' pay for murder of Chris Lane

THE man charged with prosecuting the three teenagers charged with murdering Australian baseballer Chris Lane in the US has described them as "thugs" and vowed to do everything he can to make them "pay".

Chancey Allen Luna, 16, and James Francis Edwards Jr, 15, were refused bail after being charged with first degree murder for the drive-by shooting death of Mr Lane in Duncan, Oklahoma.

The pair will be tried as adults and face life in prison if convicted.

The third teenager, Michael Jones, 17, will also be tried as an adult and faces charges of using a vehicle to facilitate the discharge of a weapon and accessory after the fact of murder in the first degree.

He was granted bail, set at $US1 million.

District Attorney Jason Hicks spoke outside the Stephens County Courthouse and said he was "appalled the behaviour of these three children".

"To those friends of ours in Australia, we would say to you this is not Duncan, Oklahoma," Mr Hicks said.
