Project construction a sign of confidence in Rocky's economy

THE EMPIRE is the latest development to hit Rockhampton's riverfront.

The apartment and hotel complex is set to follow the success of The Edge, designed by Cottee Parker Architects as well.

Director Sandra Browne said the overwhelming success of their design for The Edge project saw developer searching for other riverside development opportunities.

The project in Victoria Pde will see 105 hotel rooms and 45 apartments built.

Ms Browne said the construction of the project was a sign of confidence in Rockhampton's economy.

She said projects of this size and scale were struggling in other parts of the state because investors didn't have the confidence to put their money into property.

Construction is well under way for the Empire, with local builders JM Kelly tackling the project.

The project is set to be a great addition to Rocky, with new restaurants and employment opportunities when the hotel opens later in 2014.
