Prison stand-off ends peacefully

INVESTIGATIONS are continuing after two prisoners scaled the roof of Brisbane Correctional Centre in a 10-hour stand-off with corrective services officers on Saturday.

It is understood the pair took to the roof in protest about the placement of a fellow prisoner into a detention unit just before 12pm.

The Wacol prison was in lock-down while the altercation lasted 10 hours.

Corrective Services officers and police negotiators talked one of the prisoners down at 9.50pm, while the other surrendered about 10.30pm.

The men were carrying poles and reportedly damaged property, but a corrective services spokesman said the incident posed no threat to public safety.

A police spokesperson yesterday said no charges had been laid, but investigations were ongoing.
