Pride women kickstart season with victory first

WESTERN Pride's senior women kicked off their 2016 National Premier Leagues campaign with an encouraging 2-0 win over Redlands at the Briggs Road Sporting Complex.

Sunday's result was the first time Pride have won their season opener in the women's competition.

Rahni Pritchard scored early before Emma Barnes sealed the result from the penalty spot in the second half.

"We're quietly confident that the girls will do well this year,'' coach Len Manwaring said.

"It's a new team and a new beginning for the year and optimism is always high at the start of the season.''

Pride's next match is against Gold Coast at Bond University at 1pm on Sunday.
