Power off pace but still leads
WILL Power has retained the IndyCar drivers' championship lead despite finishing 12th in Milwaukee.
The Toowoomba driver has a 31-point advantage over James Hinchcliffe who finished third behind Andretti Autosport driver Ryan Hunter-Reay.
With the stands full, the result completed a perfect script after the event was scrapped from the calendar earlier this year, only to be reinstated thanks to the backing of Michael Andretti's sports marketing company.
Hunter-Reay, who started second on the grid, beat Tony Kanaan by 5.1029 seconds.
"It was one of the most physical races I've ever driven. You're always on edge, always busy in the car," Hunter-Reay said.
Power will now contest the Iowa Corn Indy 250 this Sunday, which will be followed by five road circuit races where the Queenslander has been almost unbeatable this season.
