Postecoglou quits the Roar

AFTER leading his team to victory in Sunday's A-League grand final against Perth Glory, Brisbane Roar coach Ange Postecoglou has resigned.

Speculation has been rife in recent weeks that the dual premiership coach would return to Melbourne to lead the Victory next season.

Postecoglou issued the following statement:

"Over the past few weeks there has been speculation about my future as Brisbane Roar head coach. I have decided to end my tenure in this position, effective immediately.

"Obviously this was an extremely difficult decision on my part but I feel that now is the right time for me to seek my next challenge in coaching.

"The last two-and-a-half years I have put everything into leading this club and building a culture that I hoped would represent this city and our code in the best possible way.

"On Sunday we once again witnessed how this club has become our code's greatest example of how great our game can be."

The Melbourne Victory is yet to confirm it has signed Postecoglou.
