Police Union: Six LNP backbenchers want help to jump ship

SOME LNP backbenchers are said to be so nervous about their prospects at the next election, they have approached a union about backing them as independents at the next election.

Writing in his monthly Queensland Police Union Journal roundup, Metro North representative Senior Sergeant Shayne Maxwell said current backbenchers had "individually approached this union for support at the next election if they run as independent".

Fairfax Media understands at least six backbenchers, from electorates in Brisbane, north Queensland and the outer-metro region, have approached the union since the beginning of August.

Senior Sergeant Maxwell, who earlier this year wrote about wanting to make public the criminal history of sitting politicians, would not comment further on his column when approached by Fairfax Media.

But he made his views clear in the August edition of the journal, which went online on Tuesday.
