Police to target Qld school zones

WITH thousands of Queensland school students returning to school today, police are reminding motorists to remain vigilant in school zones.

State Traffic Support Branch acting chief superintendent Andy Morrow said police would be paying particular attention to the behaviour of motorists around schools, reminding drivers that school zones across the south-east are standardised from 7am to 9am and 2pm to 4pm on school days.

"It is important that all drivers in the south-east are aware that in some cases school zone times in their areas may have changed," he said.

"We will be providing a visible enforcement presence in and around schools, beginning tomorrow."

Acting Chief Supt Morrow said the police emphasis would be on speed, and other driving behaviours that might endanger children.
