Man, 31, charged with murder was well-known to victim

UPDATE 11.20AM: A 31-YEAR-old charged with murdering a 69-year-old Maryborough man was well-known to the victim, police have said.

He could not comment further on the nature of the relationship between the victim and the 31-year-old man.

"Their exact relationship will be determined through further enquiries," he said.

Detective Inspector Briese said an autopsy would be conducted later this week to determine how the 69-year-old died.

UPDATE: Police have charged a 31-year-old man with murder following the discovery of body in Maryborough about 3am on Tuesday.

The man is scheduled to appear in the Maryborough Magistrates court on Tuesday.

EARLIER: Police are investigating a suspicious death that occurred overnight in Maryborough.

About 3am, police were called to a residence on Jupiter St where a 69-year-old man was found dead.

Police said a 31-year-old man was assisting police with their inquiries.

There is no further information at this stage.
