Police dog sniffs out men in togas who fled cabbie

THREE men dressed in togas have been fined after trying to dodge a $68 cab fare on Sunday morning.

Hervey Bay police said about 2.40am the trio caught a taxi from Dundowran to Kawungan.

Once the taxi was near the address the men jumped out and fled, police said.

The frustrated taxi driver phoned police who used the dog squad to track the offenders to a home in Oleander Ave, Kawungan.

The men were made to pay the outstanding fare and each was issued with a traffic infringement notice for fare evasion which they will have to pay to the Department of Transport.

A police spokeswoman said most people didn't know taxis were equipped with cameras that were used to help police.
