Police catch drug deal offender

A MAN caught by police in the middle of a drug deal has faced court.

Stafford Shane Bell, 53, was buying cannabis from a drug dealer in a car at Murgon, north of Kingaroy, on July 4, 2010, when police approached the vehicle in relation to a burglary.

Officers could smell cannabis coming from the car so they searched it and discovered 140g in the boot and 27g in Bell's bum-bag.

The cannabis was wrapped in nine 3g lots and Bell also had $800 cash in his bag which was to be used to purchase the drug.

Ipswich Magistrates Court heard about 1.5g of methamphetamine was also discovered.

Bell's defence said despite his extensive criminal history he had been out of trouble for four years.

Bell pleaded guilty to possessing and producing dangerous drugs, and possessing things used in the commission of a crime.

He was fined $1000.
