World stage for Ipswich Thistle Pipe Band

OUR very own Ipswich Thistle Pipe Band is preparing to head overseas to perform on the world stage.

Ipswich Thistle Pipe Band president Don MacSween said the band was currently fundraising to head to France's annual Celtic festival, the Festival Interceltique de Lorient, in August next year.

"It's a huge festival that goes for about 10 days and next year is the year of Australia," he said.

"We've got 20 playing members and we're just fundraising for airfares."

Mr MacSween said residents were invited to Saint Andrew's Night, a traditional Scottish celebration with plenty of live entertainment.

"Saint Andrew is patron saint of Scotland and we celebrate him every year, a bit like Saint Patrick's Day," he said.

"The Scottish flag is St Andrew's cross.

"The event will be more like a party night. We'll have the pipe band performing, highland dancers and a DJ.

"There'll be finger food and drinks available too."

St Andrew's Night will be held at the Ipswich Thistle Pipe Band Hall in Limestone Park on November 28 from 7pm-late.

Tickets cost $15.
