Pioneers fall to young Maroons

THE Ipswich Pioneers have found Webb Shield cricket newcomers Queensland under 19s more than a handful.

The Ipswich fast bowlers struggled to make inroads with Queensland under 19 batsman Aryan Jain cracking 148 not out in his team's 8-295.

Pioneers skipper Alex Welsh was the pick of the Ipswich bowlers with 3-45.

In reply, the Hornets managed just 181, with Dylan Blackman top scoring with 42.

It was the Pioneers' second loss, having gone down to Toowoomba in the opening round. It was also the second time no batsman had gone on with the job after getting a start.

Against Toowoomba four batsmen reached 30 with none passing 32.

On Sunday another four got to their thirties without any reaching a half century.
