Petero not letting emotion get to him
QUEENSLAND prop Petero Civoniceva said the hype about his farewell State of Origin series has been downplayed by his teammates in the same fashion as Darren Lockyer's final series last year.
The 36-year-old is refusing to let the emotion of his last three games in Maroons colours get the better of him before next Wednesday's Origin I clash at Melbourne's Etihad Stadium.
The players in the Queensland camp have adopted the same attitude.
"One of the great things Darren Lockyer did last year was make sure we were focussed on our preparation," Civoniceva said.
"If we do that and play well, then that's as good a send-off as you can get."
Civoniceva is happy his team has trained for next Wednesday's showdown in Melbourne and away from the constant media and public glare in Queensland and NSW.
"There's a lot of hype with State of Origin in Sydney and Brisbane, but down here we can focus solely on the game," he said.
Civoniceva defended Queensland's selection of a big forward pack against a mobile Blues back row.
"We've picked some big men in our forward pack and we'll make sure we'll charge onto the ball for the whole 80 minutes," he said.
