Bundy meat stealer caught on CCTV

A BUNDABERG pensioner "stuck in poverty" said she had to steal and sell items in order to survive.

Linda Rose Folerance Ryder faced court on five charges of stealing that took place from August to November.

As Acting Magistrate Neil Lavaring read through her charges, Ryder confirmed her participation in each event.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Grant Klaassen told the court that on August 6 that Ryder stole make-up, vitamins, shampoo and conditioner from Malouf Pharmacy in Bundaberg.

"The next day on August 7 (she) stole a 5kg rib filled from Zac's Meats worth $120," Sen Const Klaassen said.

"She was identified by CCTV footage and when later questioned she stated she had sold the meat to an unknown person."

On August 26, Ryder stole a Guess handbag from Strandbags at Stockland, later admitting she had sold the bag, valued at $89, for $50.

Also on the list of stolen items was a bottle of perfume from Chemist Warehouse valued at $110 and a number of grocery items from IGA in Bundaberg, where the defendant drank a bottle of stolen Ice Break as she browsed the aisles.

Ryder represented herself and said she had to steal and sell items to earn money because her money was being controlled by the Public Trustee.

"I've just moved out of a bad house... and my life has changed for the better now that I'm living in Bargara," Ryder said.

"I was stuck in a bad financial situation, I show remorse, it was stupidity and I can't see myself doing anything like this again."

Ryder said her Centrelink disability pension went straight to the Public Trustee who, she said, took too much and left her in poverty.

Mr Lavaring sentenced Ryder to probation and ordered she pay restitution.
