Woman, 30, killed when hit crossing Bruce Highway

UPDATE: A woman has been killed after being hit by a car on the Bruce Hwy this morning.

The 30-year-old Townsville woman died in hospital as a result of her injuries.

She was crossing the Bruce Hwy near Caboolture when struck by the car.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the woman, a 57-year-old Sunshine Coast man, was taken to hospital with serious shock.

The white SUV that hit the woman was travelling south on the highway.

The Bruce Hwy has been reopened as the forensic crash unit investigates the incident.

EARLIER: The Bruce Hwy has been closed after a serious traffic incident left a female pedestrian fighting for her life.

It is believed the woman was getting out of her car when she was hit by a passing vehicle about 4.40am near Caboolture.

The incident has closed the southbound lanes of the Bruce Highway towards Exit 152 (Bribie Island Rd).

Diversions are in place via Pumicestone Rd.
