Passionate Force fans join in chorus of support for their teams
"LET'S go Ipswich, let's go!"
That was the chant echoing through the Cotton On Foundation Stadium last Saturday night when the Force teams opened their finals campaign.
That will be a chant taken up by our little group of supporters and resonating through the minds of the Force teams this weekend when they both face Rockhampton in the state league semi-finals.
Having both Ipswich teams advance for the first time in quite a few years is an achievement that has the whole Ipswich basketball community bubbling with excitement.
A small but passionate group of Force fans have jumped at the chance to travel up the Bruce Highway to support their teams.
Playing Rockhampton on their home court is tough at the best of times. But add a semi-final and it brings with it a whole new level.
Improving on our quarter-final performances will be the first step if the Force teams want to achieve victory on Saturday night.
Despite being down at half-time, the Force women continued to battle hard against a determined Northside team.
To the Wizards' credit, they played a great game and really threw everything at us.
However, we dug deep, put everything on the line, increased our defensive intensity and nailed some tough baskets to bring it home at Booval.
After starting with a bang, the Force men had a slight lapse during the second quarter and also found themselves down at halftime. However, it was the start of the second half when the chant began reverberating through the stadium and the Force men responded.
The Force men put on quite a show, hitting big shots and limiting Bundy's scoring opportunities through tight defence and some huge blocks to eventually run away with the game by 17 points.
With both men's and women's teams having been defeated by Rocky during the regular season, the tag of "underdogs" rests with us. And that's just how we like it.
But with our desire, tenacity, steely determination, and self-belief, the Force teams are out to stage two mighty upsets.
