THE 20th Boyne Tannum HookUp was an amazing mash up of live entertainment, special events and plenty of fish, fish, fish.

With record numbers of fish tagged and released, and record crowds attending - especially at last night's major prize draw - it's an event that continues to amaze.

For Victorian Margaret Scammell it was beyond words - she'll be taking home the major prize, a 6.02 metre boat worth more than $90,000.

Ms Scammell spends four to five months a year in Calliope with her family, and attends the HookUp annually.

"I always spend the winter up here," she said.

Her daughter Suzie Lawler said the boat will probably go everywhere around Australia.

"The funny thing is we (the family) didn't even catch a fish this weekend," she said.

The end of the weekend was a bittersweet affair for committee president Jeff Amos.

"It's been top of the hill all the way - it's like being in an F1 car," he said.

"It's just been super the whole time. Damn hard work, but the rewards are seeing the looks on the kids' faces - that's what it's all about.

"It has been an incredible thing to give away all that money, all those prizes."

Mr Amos looked forward to a lot more time for fishing.

"I'm not going away. I live here. This is the greatest town in Australia, this is," he said.

He said he wished great things for those who continue the event.

"I hope it gets bigger and better and continues on," he said.

"I'm not sure if it can get bigger but it can always get better.

"Someone will have ideas and good luck to them.

"You've gotta have dedication and passion to do this show, that's what makes it happen," he said.

"If you don't have it, it's only a fishing show."
