It's official - state's top fish 'n' chips come from Coast

YOU would think serving up top fish and chips would just be about succulent seafood and crispy chips.

Wrong. It is about much more.

Point Cartwright Seafood Market has won an award for the state's best fish and chips.

And while the store does seem to serve up a very decent fish and chips, Michael Thomas, who runs the store with his father, said the industry award was judged on a variety of factors.

Mr Thomas said judges had been satisfied that the store consistently met customer expectations, used primarily Australian seafood, met labelling standards, and provided accurate information about its products.

He said fresh seafood was the key to the store's success.

"Ninety-nine per cent of our food is caught locally or elsewhere in Australia and filleted here," he said.

Mr Thomas said customers were split between battered and crumbed fish and plain and seasoned salt.

The store has gone beyond traditional takeaway fish and chips to add a licensed eatery.

But photographer-cum-fish and chip connoisseur Darryn Smith was impressed with the simple takeaway.

"It was delicious. The chips were perfect," he said.
