Police hunting gang of thieves

POLICE are investigating the break and enter of a Springfield hotel on Saturday morning and a subsequent traffic crash involving a stolen vehicle.

About 4.25am the vehicle was one of two sighted at the break and enter of a Springfield Parkway hotel bottleshop.

Police witnessed two vehicles driving at high speed on Alice St about 4.35am.

One of the vehicles was located by police a short time later after crashing on Old Logan Rd.

A male juvenile passenger was arrested but the driver and the other vehicle fled the scene.

A quantity of alcohol from the bottleshop was recovered from the vehicle. Police say the vehicle had been reported stolen from Coorparoo on May 23.

A 16-year-old Oxley boy has been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and entering premises and committing an indictable offence by breaking in.

Police are still searching for the driver of the vehicle and the occupants of the other car.

It is also believed the boy may be able to assist with Taskforce Perpetual.

Task Force Perpetual has charged 57 people with 362 charges after investigating a series of offences committed across south-east Queensland from December last year.

Acting Detective Chief Superintendent Darryl Johnson said officers had investigated 190 burglary, break and enter, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, stealing and armed robbery offences.
