Two people killed in accident near sports store

UPDATE 7.50AM: POLICE have confirmed that two people have died following a single-vehicle accident on Queen Elizabeth Dr yesterday afternoon.

A Police spokeswoman said emergency services were called to the scene at 12.30pm after reports that a car had crashed into a pole.

The spokeswoman said that the 82-year-old passenger was pronounced dead at the scene while the 83-year-old driver died later in hospital. Police were still at the scene last night, and there had been significant delays as northbound traffic was reduced to one lane.

The Forensic Crash Unit is still investigating the matter.

Meanwhile, an Ergon Energy spokesman said they will remove the street light pole that was hit by the car. While there was no loss of power supply, the pole will have to be replaced because of the extent of the damage.

UPDATE 4:30pm: POLICE have confirmed that two people have died following a single vehicle accident on Musgrave St today. 

It is understood that one person was pronounced dead at the scene around 1pm today, while the other occupant of the vehicle later died in hospital. 

Police are yet to confirm details of the deceased, including age and sex. 

 Ergon Energy will remove the street light pole that was hit by a car earlier today.

While there was no loss of power supply, the pole will have to be replaced because of the extent of the damage.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman has confirmed the Forensic Crash Unit has been called to the scene.

The spokeswoman said emergency services were called to the crash at 12.30pm in which a car had crashed into a street light pole opposite A-Mart Sports.

She said she was unable to confirm reports of the crash being a fatality.

It is believed one person is trapped and another is out of the vehicle.

It is also believed the vehicle has crashed into a street light pole.
