Goondiwindi woman third road crash victim in 24 hours

UPDATE: A 34-year-old Goondiwindi woman was the third person to die in a car crash in the Warwick region within 24 hours when the car she was driving crashed at Karara.

The car collided with a tree along the Cunningham Hwy, 59km west of Warwick, just after 1am yesterday.

A Warwick paramedic, who was at the scene, said a 38-year-old Goondiwindi man managed to pull himself from the car, which was on fire.

The paramedic said the man suffered burns to his back and cuts to his face.

Tragically, the woman was trapped in the vehicle and died at the scene.

Her death came after 20-year-old Jaydon Adams and 26-year-old Samantha Lee Burgess were killed in a crash at the Eight Mile Intersection, north of Warwick.

The Goondiwindi man was taken to Inglewood Hospital before being flown by the RACQ CareFlight helicopter to Toowoomba yesterday.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.

TUESDAY 1PM: RACQ CareFlight Rescue is airlifting the male patient injured in the car crash at Karara, which claimed the life of a woman overnight.

The male patient is being transferred from Inglewood Hospital to the Toowoomba Hospital.

TUESDAY 10AM: A Warwick paramedic said the man involved in the car crash at Karara pulled himself from the car after it crashed into a tree early this morning.

He said the car was already on fire and that the man has suffered burns to his back and cuts to his face.

The man was transported to Inglewood Hospital and is in a stable condition. 

The driver of the car, who died in the crash, is believed to be a female.

TUESDAY 7AM: A PERSON has died and another been injured after their car collided with a tree near Karara overnight.

The accident occurred on the Cunningham Highway 59km west of Warwick at 1.25am.

A passerby managed to free a male passenger from the vehicle moments before it burst into flames.

The driver remained trapped inside the vehicle and died at the scene.

A Department of Community Safety spokeswoman said the male passenger was taken to the Warwick Hospital with minor burns and is in a stable condition.

The forensic crash unit is investigating.
