NZ pedophile extradited after serving time in Queensland

A NEW Zealand man who sexually abused a five-year-old Cairns boy who was offered to him by his Queensland pedophile parents - who ran an international child abuse ring - is set to be extradited.

Craig Edward Broadley, 43, from Lower Hutt near Wellington, was in Brisbane District Court yesterday where Judge Douglas McGill sentenced him to a suspended 253-day prison term, which Broadley has already served in Brisbane awaiting trial.

Broadley yesterday pleaded guilty to nine charges of indecent treatment of two five-year-old boys in July 2010 and February 2011.

Broadley's abuse unwittingly helped crack a global pedophile ring.

"The couple were making the children available for sexual activities with men," Judge McGill said, referring to the surrogate child.

Both men are currently serving time overseas.

Broadley performed oral sex on the five-year-old boy, and took photos and videos of a second victim, his five-year-old friend who came to visit.

Broadley travelled to Cairns from New Zealand to abuse the boy after chatting to his parents over the internet, Crown Prosecutor Catherine Birkett told the court.

Police traced Broadley after indecent photos of the two boys taken by Broadley were found on computers linked to the pedophile ring in late 2011.

Police used the metadata in the photos to trace them back to Broadley's camera.

The court heard that Broadley had taken three videos of the two boys "bathing and doing things while naked or undressing" and more than a dozen indecent photos of the naked children during his visits to Cairns in July 2010 and February 2011.

Ms Birkett told the court that New Zealand police tipped off Queensland police after they found online chat logs where Broadley said he said he wished to have sexual contact with the child and how he had visited the child in Queensland.

Broadley has previously served seven months home detention in New Zealand in 2012 for writing child porn fiction and possessing child porn.

He is expected to be extradited within days.
