Nudists left dangling over Alexandria Bay petition
A PETITION to make Alexandria Bay an official nude beach has gained signatures from all over the world.
But after being online for a month, the petition at 325 signatures is still a long way short of its target of 1000.
Free Beach Australia advises on its website the petition was designed to get a decision on the future of "A-Bay".
"A-Bay has struggled to get legal status in the past with all of the usual 'buck passing' political antics that seems to occur at clothing optional beaches all around Australia," it reads.
"Politics and clothing optional beaches have never seemed too comfortable together, and many of us are very familiar with the tried-and-tested 'it's a State Government decision'; 'no it's a council decision'; 'no it's a Parks and Wildlife decision' and so on, rinse and repeat."
You get some genuine (nudists) there, but about 50/50 are sickos.
The call for an official decision on A-Bay's clothing optional status has support from a Noosa local, who also wants a police crackdown on the "sickos" who currently ruin it for everyone.
The Noosa surfer, who has been going to A-Bay for two decades, says tourists and families were often shocked to find nudists at the beach when walking past to get to Noosa National Park.
"You get some genuine (nudists) there, but about 50/50 are sickos," he said.
"I've seen everything: they will flash their genitalia at young girls walking past and I have also seen some of them masturbating on the beach.
"These are the people police need to get rid of.
"Nudies yes, sickos... get rid of them," he said.
"At least if it is an official nude beach, there can be signs up to warn people not to pass there.
"Some say it is a remote beach, but it is not that remote, as many people like to do the walk from Sunshine to the National Park.
"I've seen little kids arrive there and start screaming.
"It has to be one or the other. If it's not a nude beach, police need to get rid of the bad elements."
