No magic wand for Potter as Dragons fire for big victory
WESTS Tigers players were unable to lift for under-pressure coach Mick Potter yesterday, beaten 28-12 by a Gareth Widdop-inspired Dragons at ANZ Stadium.
Playing just hours after media reports in Sydney suggested the Tigers board was due to meet to decide Potter's future, the Dragons pounced, racing out to a 22-0 lead, with spectacular tries to Widdop (two) and Gerard Beale.
Widdop's first came from a Brett Morris break, the winger putting in a kick for the five-eighth to score.
The English international then set up Beale's try in the 27th minute, with his cross-field kick batted back in play by Morris.
Beale was on the spot to receive the reward.
And the flair continued in the 32nd minute, with Mitch Rein making a break from dummy-half, before putting in a kick for Widdop (pictured) who charged through to score.
The Dragons finished off the match with tries to right-winger Jason Nightingale and Morris.
