No escape for driver from hit-and-run traffic crash

IPSWICH police would like to thank community-minded members of Leichhardt for their assistance in locating the driver of a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run traffic crash that destroyed a street sign and narrowly avoided crashing into a house fence.

After watching the crash and the vehicle drive off, the witnesses contacted police and were able to tell officers where the vehicle went and exactly what had happened.

Police spoke to a 23-year-old Leichhardt man who initially told officers that his car had been stolen but quickly changed his mind when the officers told him they had witnesses to the crash.

The young man has been issued with a traffic ticket for not having control of a vehicle.
