Nigerian bobsleigh team aiming for Winter Olympics

BOBSLEIGH: A female Nigerian bobsleigh team is determined to create its own sequel to Cool Runnings.

Following in the footsteps of the Jamaican men made famous by the popular movie, Seun Adigun, Ngozi Onwumere and Akuoma Omeoga are aiming to become the first athletes from their country to compete in the Winter Olympics.

All three women are sprinters, with Adigun even running the 110m hurdles at the 2012 Olympics in London.

But they now have set their sights on competing at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

"Although I am spearheading the team, this movement has grown to be far larger than me or any one person,” Adigun said in a statement on the team's GoFundMe page.

"The success of this bobsleigh team will positively affect millions of people all over the world and will represent monumental international advancements in social, athletic and economic statuses.

"Together, we can demonstrate that nothing is impossible with a little faith, support and willingness to persevere.”

The team trains in the US and is trying to raise $150,000 to pay for equipment, travel and training costs.
