THE mother of murdered Gold Coast man Colin Lutherborrow says apologies from two newspapers which claimed her son was killed because he was linked to child prostitution and underworld crime are "too little, too late".

Less than 24 hours after her son was shot dead in the middle of a Broadbeach road on July 20, 2011, Lorna Lutherborrow was confronted with newspaper claims her son was involved in a child prostitution ring.

The Gold Coast Bulletin's front page claimed the victim of the roadside shooting was "known to have lured under-age girls into prostitution and pornography".

News Limited stablemate The Courier-Mail reported in a front page story the same day that police were probing a "child porn link" in the "revenge shooting", however the victim was not named.

The claims were repeated in both newspapers the following day.Police immediately refuted the claims.
