Newman ‘devastated’ by wife’s sudden death
Footy and TV legend Sam Newman has been left devastated after the sudden death of his wife at their Docklands home.
Amanda Brown, 50, was found by the Geelong great lying on the floor of their apartment at about 8pm Saturday.
Emergency services were alerted, but she was said to be unresponsive.
Newman, 75, is understood to be shocked and heartbroken by his soulmate's sudden and unexplained passing.
"I'm just devastated, I can't say anything else," Newman said this morning.
An Ambulance Victoria spokesman said paramedics were called to Newman's home over reports of a cardiac arrest about 7.40pm on Saturday.
The report was described as a "medical condition".
Police confirmed Ms Brown's death was not being treated as suspicious.
"Police will prepare a report for the Coroner following the death of a 50-year-old woman in Docklands on Saturday May 1," a Victoria Police spokesman said.
"The matter is not being treated as suspicious."
The pair had been together for 20 years, but only tied the knot last November.
They were married in their apartment, with Perfect Match host Greg Evans officiating the ceremony attended by just close family and friends.
Newman's best mate of more than 30 years, Kevin King, was best man.
Newman's close friend Don Scott, co-host of their You Cannot Be Serious podcast, said he was shattered for his friend.
"They've been together for 19 years and he depended on her a fair bit,'' Scott said.
"He had a lot of feeling for her. What do you say? All you can do is be there."
Mike Sheahan, who used to be on the podcast with Newman and Scott, said he was also shocked by the news.
"I feel really sad for him, they got married just before Christmas,'' Sheahan said.
"He was happy and that's not always something you'd associated with Sam.
"It's just terrible to find her gone at 50. Sometimes it's hard to comprehend that stuff."
Another source close to the pair said: "Poor Sam. They just adored each other."
Unlike her husband, Ms Brown largely shied away from the media spotlight.
Prior to meeting Ms Brown, the 300-game champion and TV personality had been married and divorced three times and has three sons, Jack, Geordan and Max.
