Newman calls on Rudd to quit politics

QUEENSLAND Premier Campbell Newman has called on outgoing Prime Minister Kevin Rudd to quit Federal Parliament in the wake of Labor's defeat to the Coalition.

Mr Newman dropped in to Liberal National Party Griffith candidate Bill Glasson's post-election party, at which Dr Glasson all but conceded defeat, despite a 4.1 per cent swing towards the LNP.

Shortly before Mr Rudd conceded defeat to Tony Abbott, Mr Newman said it was time for the Griffith MP to leave politics.

"Frankly, it's now time for Kevin Rudd to go - I'm sure the Labor Party wants him to go and, in fact, I think the people of Australia want him to go," he said.

''It's now time to have a great local member with capability and conviction and decency and that's Bill Glasson."
