New sport hits the ground running in Ipswich

IPSWICH's very first season of brand new sport, TRL, concluded in style recently with a massive crowd turning out to cheer on local teams.

Touch Rugby League, known as TRL, held the men's and mixed division finals at Swifts Sports Field late last month with the inaugural season attracting 14 teams to the competition.

TRL Ipswich's Stefan Ziesolleck said Ipswich had embraced the social sport, which is played on half a rugby league field, with six players for a men's game and seven players for a mixed game.

"Overall the season was a great success, with 14 teams enjoying the newest social sport in Ipswich," he said.

"Recently we also selected our representative teams for the TRL Australian Championships later in November.

"TRL Ipswich will field a men's and mixed team to take on the likes of Brisbane, Wynnum/Redlands, Moreton Bay, Beenleigh, Toowoomba, Rockhampton and Sydney."

Mr Ziesolleck said TRL Ipswich had a fantastic start and was adding a second venue to its roster with West End RLFC to host a Wednesday night competition in the summer season.

The season starts on November 16.
