New independent agency created to govern TAFE Queensland

TAFE Queensland will be handed more control by the State Government as a new independent agency is created to govern the institution.

Although still overseen by the government, this new parent entity will be created on July 1 to direct every TAFE campus across the state.

Education Minister John-Paul Langbroek said it was a chance for the state to shake-up the vocational education and training sector.

By giving TAFE Queensland some autonomy, Mr Langbroek said it would allow TAFE to become more competitive.

A nine-member board will be created to run the agency with the inaugural chief executive appointed by the government.

Future chief executives will be decided by the TAFE Queensland board.
