Facebook leads investigated after six puppies found dead

THE RSPCA are investigating new leads found through Facebook as to the mystery death of six staffy-brindle puppies, found in a vacuum cleaner cardboard box on Gladstone Mt Larcom Rd on Thursday.

RSPCA spokesman Michael Beatty said 'a couple of leads' from Facebook were being followed up but are urging residents who have any information to come forward.

Autopsies on the pups Friday afternoon gave no clues about how they died.

Mr Beattie said the RSPCA are also investigating as to whether heat exhaustion or starvation may have been the cause of the puppies deaths, with no physical trauma or water in the lungs found, leaving the RSPCA pleading for public information.

Pedro de Pacas, who found the litter, said he had seen the box roadside for three days.

Only one puppy of the litter survived and after being taken to the vet for a check-up, is now in the care of Mr de Paco.

Mr de Paco said the pup had chewed her way out of the box in which her six siblings laid.

Mount Larcom police, who scoured the cardboard box, found no fingerprints.

If you have any information that could assist investigations, phone the RSPCA on 1300 264 685.
