Neumann disgusted by Abbott

NATIONAL Opposition Leader Tony Abbott’s comments regarding the death of an Australian soldier in Afghanistan have been labelled as “disgusting” by Labor MP Shayne Neumann.

The controversy erupted on Tuesday night when Channel 7 reporter Mark Riley confronted Mr Abbott with footage from the Liberal Party leader’s tour of Afghanistan.

The footage showed Mr Abbott speaking with American soldiers and saying “shit happens” while discussing the circumstances that led to the death of 28-year-old Australian Digger Jared MacKinney.

Federal member for Blair Shayne Neumann said Mr Abbott’s comments were disgraceful.

“I thought it was a disgusting comment to make about a person who has sacrificed his life for his country. It was disgusting,” Mr Neumann said.

“The way he acted when the reporter questioned him was awful as well. Tony looked very angry.”

Mr Abbott has apologised to Mr MacKinney’s family.
