Neumann blast for Turnbull on Medicare Locals

BLAIR MP Shayne Neumann has blasted the Turnbull Government following revelations that the Liberal's broken promise on Medicare Locals has cost taxpayers nearly $57 million.

"During the 2013 election campaign the Liberals promised they wouldn't shut any Medicare Local," Mr Neumann said.

"Then just weeks after they were elected, they moved to shut all 61 Medicare locals, and replace them with 31 larger Primary Health Networks (PHNs).

"In Blair, the Liberals axed our excellent West Moreton-Oxley Medicare Local (WMOML) which had been improving health outcomes across Ipswich and the Somerset Region.

"The Liberals then awarded Ipswich's Primary Health Network contract to Darling Downs Health, ignoring the need for health services to be delivered by local organisations with proven track records like WMOML."
