Musical pair on road to success

TWO Sunshine Coast teenagers are on the verge of a career breakthrough after being named among Australia's 10 most promising young musicians.

Noosa's Mia Wray and Maroochydore's Andrew Redford beat hundreds of hopefuls from across the nation to become finalists in the Telstra Road to Discovery talent development program, announced in Sydney Olympic Park yesterday.

They will now compete in the final of the quest held during next month's Tamworth Country Music Festival.

For Mia, 16, and Andrew, 19, that would mean securing a 12-month music mentorship package, which includes a return trip to Nashville.

The 10 finalists were chosen from a group of 18 independent and unsigned artists who performed at the Telstra Road to Discovery semi-final as part of the Sydney Telstra 500 V8 Supercars event.

Prior to the semi-final, all 18 artists took part in an intensive two-day music development boot camp, where a network of music industry professionals, including songwriters, publishers, established artists and industry organisations shared their knowledge and experience.

The Telstra Road to Discovery Final is the culmination of a six-month search around the nation.

It included 12 live music performance heats, one digital online heat for performers in remote and regional areas and a separate online category for songwriters.

Tailored to suit each winner's musical aspirations, the prize package includes access to a network of music industry professionals.
