Woman on murder charge
A 46-YEAR-OLD Marcoola woman has been charged with murder after the death of a 47-year old Marcoola man following a stabbing at Bribie Island on Saturday night.
She has also been charged with the attempted murder of a 23-year-old Hervey Bay man.
Nicola Maria Baillie appeared in Caboolture Magistrates Court yesterday, charged with one count of murder and one count of attempted murder.
Ms Baillie appeared before Magistrate Murray Bucknall who adjourned the matter until June 13.
Defence solicitor Kurt Fowler asked for the charges against Ms Baillie to be adjourned for committal mention in about two months' time.
He asked for the charges not to be formally read out in court.
Ms Baillie appeared in watch-house browns, looking distressed and swaying anxiously as she awaited the court's decision.
Her blonde hair was cropped at the back with dyed red strands draping at the front.
She had two small tattoos, one on her wrist and another on the back of her neck.
Detectives believed a serrated knife may have been the weapon used in the stabbing at the Placid Waters Toorbul St unit block.
Regional Crime Co-ordinator North Coast Region Detective Superintendent Maurice Carless said police and emergency services were called to a disturbance at the unit block in Bongaree about 10.30pm on Saturday.
He said they found a man with "significant injuries to his body", believed to be from knife wounds.
"He was taken to Royal Brisbane Hospital but died soon after," Det Supt Carless said.
The 23-year-old man was also treated at Royal Brisbane Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Det Supt Carless said there were four people in the apartment and he believed they might be from the same family or were related in some way.
Scenes of Crime and the forensic team were seen searching for evidence through the second-floor apartment and in the unit block stairwell area.
A post mortem will take place to ascertain the cause of death.
Police were doorknocking other units in the complex to find out what residents saw or heard on Saturday night.
CCTV footage at the complex would also be examined as part of investigations.
