Man responsible for two-day Mt Morgan siege to be sentenced

THE Park Avenue man allegedly responsible for the two-day siege in the Mt Morgan area in September 2014 will be sentenced next week in Rockhampton District Court.

Adin Joel Cussen, who appeared in the Rockhampton District Court yesterday in his prison uniform, is allegedly the man at the centre of a siege that saw 11 properties damaged as a result of a number of fires allegedly lit by Cussen when he was hiding from police.

It's alleged Cussen came to police attention on September 16 when he threatened a woman in North Rockhampton and Kinka Beach.

The next day, September 17, an allegedly armed Cussen was involved in a car chase with police from Rockhampton towards Mt Morgan where the two-day standoff with police, which involved shots being fired at police, began.

Cussen is facing a string of charges including 11 counts of arson, three counts of wilful damage, one count of common assault, one count of assault occasioning bodily harm, one count of burglary and stealing, two counts of dangerous operation of a vehicle, two counts of malicious act with intent, two counts of serious assault with circumstances of aggravation, one count of possession of weapons and two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle with damage.

The sentence will start on February 25.
