MP convinces Campbell Newman to reconsider rail corridors
THE Member for Gregory, Vaughan Johnson, says he has persuaded Campbell Newman to reconsider the location of rail corridors.
Adani Coal and rail company Aurizon want to build freight lines from the untapped coalfields in the central west, to the north Queensland port of Abbot Point.
Landowners say the two planned rail corridors, set aside as Special Development Areas, cross floodplains and prime farming land.
"He (Newman) will revisit this corridor in question where I have identified as the area of concern and I have spoken with a couple of the pastoral people in question and now the coordinator general will set up meetings with those people affected and no doubt with the coal company in question," he told ABC.
"We are talking here about some of the best and future potential irrigation farming land in this country and it's absolutely paramount that we make absolutely certain that this land is protected for all and sundry."
