Russell Ingall hoping for spot on Ipswich 400 podium

A 50-year-old is giving himself a chance to finish on the podium at the Ipswich 400 this weekend.

That is the feeling coming out of the Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport team regarding veteran Russell Ingall.

Ingall is traditionally a strong performer at Queensland Raceway and his Holden Commodore VF has strong pace on soft tyres.

All qualifying and racing will be conducted on the Dunlop soft tyres.

That, as well as a rewarding test last week at Winton, has helped raise expectation within the single-car squad.

"We are pushing hard. We are pushing really hard for this one," Ingall said.

"That is one of the reasons we went for the test day because we want to have a big swing at it.

"This could be the best chance to get a podium to be honest."

The Ipswich 400 is a SuperSprint event, which means two 100km races on Saturday and a single 200km mini-marathon on Sunday.
