Motorcyclist dies in fatal highway crash near Cairns

A MAN has died after a serious traffic crash in far north Queensland earlier this afternoon.

Police responded to reports around 1:15pm that a motorcycle had crashed on the Captain Cook Highway around 2km north of Ellis Beach.

The male motorcycle rider was seriously injured and later pronounced deceased on the scene.

The Highway was blocked in both directions but traffic is now beginning to flow again.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
