Morton scouts benefit from $135k funding

THE Morton region's skilful scouts will be well equipped in their future adventures thanks to a range of den upgrades.

More than $135,000 will be spent on five scout dens in the district. Scout dens receiving upgrades include the Laidley, Lowood, Atkinson Dam, Esk and Glenore Grove dens.

Regional Scout Commissioner Ken Millers said the upgrades were made possible through a Community Gambling Benefit fund.

The upgrades started in early October and will be completed by mid-December.

"It's better facilities and better equipment," he said.

"It's absolutely magnificent."

Commissioner Millers said local scout groups were only just getting back on track after the 2011 and 2013 floods so the upgrades provided a major boon for the youth groups.

"This year alone we've had a major growth in support and we're starting to get over some of the flood issues," he said.

"It's been a hard four or five years but this year has been extremely surprising, both in numbers and certainly in funding."
